Driving Impressions

We won’t bemoan the fact that, at present, the EX30 is only sold in the U.S. in the dual-motor configuration. That’s because it’s furiously fast and unexpectedly fun. Zero to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds used to be the stuff of supercars, and here we have it on a sensible Volvo subcompact SUV. In fact, the EX30’s 3.4-second blast to 60 mph mirrors that of the high-performance Kia EV6 GT, which is nearly $20,000 more and has a significantly tauter ride quality.
And that’s one of the great things about the EX30: Once you’re done with the stoplight speed-away shenanigans, this Volvo’s ride quality is comfortable and serene. It won’t carve corners like a dedicated high-performance EV SUV like the EV6 GT or Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, but we’re happy trading everyday comfort for those brief moments of canyon carving. If you are, too, then we suspect you’ll be pleased with the EX30’s overall driving manners.
Interestingly, the EX30 defaults to rear-wheel drive in the name of efficiency, but it’s always ready to engage the front motor and wheels when extra traction is needed. Or, you can engage all-wheel drive manually with the touch of an icon on the screen.
The EX30’s regenerative braking is also adept, and features one-pedal driving for those so inclined. In addition to the high regen mode, there is also a low or off mode. In our testing we found the “low” mode more of a “mid.”
The new EX30 Cross Country sits a hair higher and has a slightly softer suspension than the standard EX30, but drives much the same. This is a soft-roader at best, and that will be fine for most buyers. We think the ability to excel driving in the city and highway alike — with a bit of ability to venture off pavement — will suit Volvo drivers.
Range and Charging
The dual-motor EX30 is EPA-rated for 253 miles of range when equipped with 19-inch wheels and 250 when rolling on 20s. Those numbers are below the 318 max of an Ioniq 5, and closer to the Kona Electric’s range of 261 miles. We haven’t seen stats for the EX30 Cross Country, especially one fitted with 18-inch all-terrain tires, but we imagine it will take a small hit. Volvo says the EX30 is capable of charging from 10% to 80% battery capacity in about 27 minutes on a Level 3 public DC fast charger, which is on the fast side. Charging from 0% to 100% using a Level 2 home charger can be accomplished in about eight hours. An NACS adaptor grants the EX30 access to Tesla’s wide-ranging network of Supercharger stations.

Excellent Exterior

Measuring eight inches shorter than Volvo’s own XC40 and 10 inches shorter than the diminutive <a href="/lexus/ux/">Lexus UX</a>, the 2026 Volvo EX30 is among the smallest SUVs on the market. But it doesn’t look it. It’s sharply styled and well-proportioned, giving it a real-world presence that belies its dimensions. The clean, modern, and enduring design features sheetmetal that looks like it’s still wet as it flows smoothly over the SUV’s somewhat muscular bones. We think Volvo’s designers nailed it.
The new EX30 Cross Country injects this model with a touch of ruggedness. It sits higher, but not by much — 19 mm or .74 inches, to be exact. There are also bits of black exterior cladding around the wheel arches and skid plates to add to the adventurous appeal. For drivers more serious about venturing off pavement, 18-inch all-terrain tires are available for added grip.

Pilot Assist 
We’ve logged hundreds of reduced-effort highway miles using Volvo’s Pilot Assist system, cruising comfortably with our feet off the pedals and a ready hand on the wheel. We found the speed, distance, and steering assist system easy to use in the EX30 — just press down on the stalk-mounted transmission selector — but it doesn’t work as well as some others in stop-and-go traffic.
Park Pilot Assist 
The only way the extra-subcompact EX30 could be any easier to park is if it could park itself — which it can do. Very well.
Helpful Home Screen 
Volvo’s latest infotainment system features a robust and smartly organized home screen, offering a wealth of relevant information and easy, intuitive access to functions. Important, since so much is controlled via this screen, including adjustment of the outside mirrors.
Robust Google Integration 
In addition to a smart interface, the EX30’s infotainment system features seamless integration of Google Maps, Google Assistant, and related apps and services. By considering both your destination and charge level, for instance, Google Maps can make it easy to find efficient routes and chargers. Google built-in is especially useful if you own an Android phone or are an otherwise heavy user of Google’s ecosystem. But don’t worry, iPhone devotees, the EX30 also offers wireless Apple CarPlay integration.
Over-the-Air Updates 
Like your mobile phone, the EX30 will get better with time as Volvo releases software updates that can happen while you sleep.
Cross Country version 
We admit to being excited about this new version of the EX30 ever since it was teased at the debut of the standard EX30. It’s just rugged enough to appear outdoorsy without going overboard. It isn’t meant for the Rubicon, but with a bit more ground clearance, skid plates, and those optional all-terrain tires, it will handle dirt roads and snow suitably.

Small, Stylish, and Smart Interior

Interior

The most important thing to know about the interior of the EX30 is that there’s very little legroom for rear-seat passengers. Volvo claims 32.3 inches of legroom in back, which is less than just about every other subcompact SUV and about four meaningful inches shy of the segment average. The EX30 is best for a one- or two-person household that doesn’t need to transport even smaller humans in the backseat on a regular basis or very far.
With that caveat covered, we’re fans of the Volvo EX30’s cabin overall. In contrast with the rear seat accommodations, the EX30 feels like an even larger vehicle in front. Indeed, the key front-row dimensions are all above the segment average. We also found good spots for our drinks and phones, plus a sliding, centrally located storage bin and extra-roomy door pockets (but we wish they included a dedicated bottle holder).
The 5-passenger cabin has a minimalist feel in general, especially up front, where a vertically oriented 12.3-inch screen does double duty for both an instrument cluster and infotainment screen. We advise familiarizing yourself with the controls and settings before launching onto the highway; most controls depend on your finger touching the screen and/or steering wheel, even to do something as simple as adjust the mirrors.
The EX30 also comes with a glass panoramic roof. It doesn’t open but does do a good job of blocking out the sun. If you find our closest star’s rays still too intense, a screen is available for further blockage.
Also note that, as of this writing, only the Apple CarPlay is available in the EX30. Volvo reps tell us that Android Auto will manifest itself via a future update. And if you’re a fan of AM radio, that’s out of the picture altogether, as with other Volvo vehicles.
At just around 12 cubic feet, the EX30 is short on cargo room compared to the competition, but drop the split-folding seatbacks and lower the two-tier load floor and there’s room enough to accommodate the spoils of a trip to your favorite warehouse store — 27.8 cubic feet’s worth, when including the subfloor compartment. Up front, the Volvo EX30 has a small frunk (front trunk), that’s just large enough to hold the charging cord or a small duffel bag.

The Volvo EX30 is an all-electric SUV like no other and something of a master of contrasts. It’s the smallest and least expensive battery-powered SUV from the Swedish luxury brand, yet also the fastest and arguably most stylish. This little meatball can blast from zero to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, doing so with charming looks that make it appear a coy toy for youthful drivers who prioritize safety and sensibility.
The EX30’s potency comes thanks to a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup and an almost-obscene 422 horsepower. And all of this is had at an appealing price that slides below $50,000. Buyers with a more adventurous spirit will be drawn to the new Volvo EX30 Cross Country variant.

When Volvo debuted the EX30, the brand boasted the SUV would have a starting price of around $35,000. But that figure was tied to a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model we’ve yet to see in the U.S. So far, all EX30 models for the U.S. come with the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup, and that means a price over $46,000. Still, even that higher figure is more in line with mainstream electric SUVs like the (albeit larger) <a href="/kia/ev6/">Kia EV6</a> and <a href="/hyundai/ioniq-5/">Hyundai Ioniq 5</a>, and is substantially less than the high-performance versions of those models. This price also puts the EX30 near that of the best-selling <a href="/tesla/model-y/">Tesla Model Y</a>.
Closer in size to the EX30 is the <a href="/hyundai/kona-electric/">Hyundai Kona Electric</a>, starting in the mid-$30,000 range, which is also where the <a href="/chevrolet/equinox-ev/">Chevrolet Equinox EV</a> falls, and likely near where the all-new <a href="/nissan/leaf/2026/">Nissan Leaf</a> will land, too. For something a bit larger, the <a href="/volvo/ex40/">Volvo EX40</a> is closer to $54,000.
The standard EX30 is available in two trims — Plus and Ultra — while the new EX30 Cross Country will initially arrive in just the top Ultra trim.

The 2026 Volvo EX30’s battery features 69 kWh of total storage and 64 kWh of usable capacity. It can charge at up to 153 kW on a DC fast charger, and up to 11 kW on a Level 2 home charger.
Warranty
The 2026 Volvo EX30 is covered by the automaker’s new-vehicle warranty of four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, with the battery and related components covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. This level of coverage is typical among European automakers. Volvo also provides complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.

The Volvo EX30 has yet to be crash-tested by either the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2026 Chevrolet Blazer EV is powered by a 288-horsepower electric motor with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The Chevy Blazer EV drives as well as or better than anything in the segment. The Blazer EV simply goes, stops, and turns with remarkable refinement, delivering a satisfying driving experience. We’ve found it smooth and easy around town — especially when using the excellent one-pedal driving mode — comfortable on the highway, and quicker than most buyers will ever need it to be. It’s an especially good highway cruiser when equipped with GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system, which is one of our favorites.
The Blazer EV SS that debuted for the 2025 model year significantly turns up the heat with a dual-motor powertrain that pumps out 615 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds when Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode is engaged. We had good fun testing the Blazer EV SS on the track and the street. Acceleration is forceful and instantaneous, taking an electric SUV that was already engaging to drive and making it a rocket. If you’re looking for an EV that’s both practical and exciting, the Blazer EV SS is one of the best of its kind to fit that bill.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
The Chevy Blazer EV&#8217;s range is up to 312 miles when equipped with front-wheel drive and the standard 19-inch wheels. Upgrading to 22-inch wheels or all-wheel drive drops the range estimate to 283 miles, and the special powertrain in the SS model gives it a 303-mile range. These range ratings are on par with most rivals, like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ford Mustang Mach-E, but the Tesla Model Y gets a notably longer max range of 337 miles.
Chevy estimates that charging the Blazer EV from 10% to 80% takes about 40 minutes with DC fast charging. That means it can add about 80 miles worth of range in 10 minutes of charging. Using Level 2 charging at home, it can reliably get a full charge overnight.

Sporty Exterior

It can be challenging to design a midsize SUV that looks truly sporty, but the Chevy Blazer EV gets it right. Borrowing a little inspiration from the Camaro, the Blazer EV has muscular body lines and cool wheel designs, but with a sleek light signature that makes it look high-tech. Naturally, the SS model adds a more aggressive look.

Super Cruise 
What might be our favorite hands-free highway driving system is optional in the Chevy Blazer EV. Super Cruise allows for eyes-on-the-road, hands-off-the-wheel driving on more than 400,000 miles of North American highways, and it feels natural and reassuring.
SS model 
Chevy gave us more than we could’ve asked for with the Blazer EV SS, making a whopping 615 horsepower for a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds. This practical 4-door SUV is the quickest and most powerful SS-badged Chevy of all time.
Google built-in 
The Chevy Blazer EV’s infotainment system has a 17.7-inch screen and Google built-in, which means Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play store are built right in with no phone connection required.
One-pedal driving 
The highest level of brake energy regeneration in the Blazer EV enables drivers to speed up and slow down just by varying the pressure on the accelerator pedal. It’s only necessary to hit the brake pedal when a more urgent stop is required.
Tesla Supercharger access 
Although not a Tesla itself, the Chevy Blazer EV can be charged at Tesla Supercharger stations if you have an adapter, which is available as an accessory from GM. This greatly expands the network where the Blazer EV can plug in, making it more road trip-ready.
Remote access 
Using the myChevrolet Mobile app, owners can lock/unlock doors and set the ideal cabin temperature (including heated seats). When done while it’s still charging, the Blazer EV will use energy from the charger, not the battery.

Modern Interior

Stepping inside the Chevy Blazer EV brings a feeling of piloting a modern and high-tech vehicle while also feeling familiar with no steep learning curves to deal with. The seats are comfortable, the interior space is good, and the controls for everything are where they feel like they should be. Every trim gets an 11-inch digital gauge cluster and a 17.7-inch central infotainment display, but it still has physical knobs and buttons for climate and volume controls.
The back seat space is generous enough for adult comfort, with 39 inches of legroom, which is a little more than the Ford Mustang Mach-E and a little less than the Tesla Model Y. However, at 25.5 cubic feet behind the back seats, its cargo hold is smaller than that of its closest rivals. Also, it doesn’t have a front trunk like some EVs do.
Although this isn’t a knock on the Blazer EV per se, we feel compelled to inform you that the <a href="/chevrolet/equinox-ev/">Chevy Equinox EV</a> has very similar interior space while carrying a significantly lower price tag. The Blazer EV has more rear legroom by less than one inch, and the Equinox EV actually has slightly more cargo room. Something to keep in mind if you visit a Chevy dealer for a test drive.

The Chevy Blazer EV is a good SUV for drivers who want to go electric and would prefer the assurance of a long-established brand with a nationwide dealer network rather than a relative newcomer. The Blazer EV has the range, comfort, and interior space to make it ready for daily driving duties. Meanwhile, its advanced tech features, like a 17.7-inch touchscreen and available hands-free driving, make it feel a little futuristic but not intimidating. For enthusiasts who need something practical, a stunning SS model with 615 horsepower is available. Even if performance isn’t a priority, there’s a lot to like about the Chevy Blazer EV.

The Chevy Blazer EV is priced close to the <a href="/tesla/model-y/">Tesla Model Y</a> and <a href="/honda/prologue/">Honda Prologue</a>, but its starting price is undercut a bit by the <a href="/ford/mustang-mach-e/">Ford Mustang Mach-E</a> and <a href="/nissan/ariya/">Nissan Ariya</a>.

Other than the SS trim, every 2026 Chevy Blazer EV uses an 85 kWh battery pack. The EPA estimates it gets up to 104 combined MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) with front-wheel drive and 95 MPGe with all-wheel drive, which makes it a little less efficient than its top rivals from Ford and Tesla, but it still has impressively low fuel costs. Meanwhile, the potent Blazer EV SS uses a 102 kWh battery pack that gets 85 combined MPGe.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Chevrolet’s new-vehicle limited bumper-to-bumper warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. This coverage is typical among mainstream manufacturers. The battery is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. Also, Chevrolet includes five years or 60,000 miles of powertrain coverage, plus a free first service within one year or 12,000 miles.
<h3>Safety</h3>
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>) issued its top 5-Star overall rating to the Blazer EV. It hasn’t been crash tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), but the mechanically similar Honda Prologue has, and it got &#8220;Good&#8221; and &#8220;Acceptable&#8221; ratings in every category. Standard safety features in the Blazer EV include active blind-spot monitoring and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.

The Chevy Blazer EV briefly had the distinction of being the only vehicle on the market available with front-wheel drive (FWD), rear-wheel drive (RWD), or all-wheel drive (AWD). Now, for 2026, the rear-drive configuration has been discontinued. The LT and RS trims are both available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, while the SS model is AWD-only. Also, 2026 ushers in a new Tech Bronze appearance package.

The GMC Hummer EV SUV is a beast with stunning performance and rugged capabilities that live up to its aura.

The difference between the <a href="/compare-cars/results?vehicleIds=477556|477553/">two trims</a> of the GMC Hummer EV SUV is in the motors. The 2X model has a dual-motor electric powertrain making 570 horsepower and 7,400 lb-ft of torque. As you may have already guessed by the number, the 3X model has three motors generating 830 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. No, those torque ratings are not typos. Both models have 4-wheel drive (4WD).
We tested the Hummer EV SUV 3X and came away impressed. This super SUV’s acceleration is simply astounding. In our experience driving the 3-motor electric powertrain, the Hummer can be a quiet, comfy cruiser or a cannonball. It’s relaxing to drive on the highway with the standard <a href="/car-news/gms-super-cruise-now-covers-750000-miles-of-roads/">Super Cruise</a> hands-free driving system engaged, but hold on tight when you <a href="/car-news/2026-gmc-hummer-ev-gets-gulp-quicker/">floor the accelerator</a> from a standstill.
The Watts to Freedom launch mode isn’t for the faint of heart; it throws you back in your seat like a steep drop on a roller coaster. With 830 hp and instant torque delivery to all four wheels, the Hummer has all the power you could realistically want.
The Hummer EV SUV is a surprisingly agile behemoth. According to <a href="/gmc/">GMC</a>, it has the same turning radius as the little Chevy Bolt. This feat is achieved with 4-wheel steering; the rear wheels can turn up to 10 degrees. A low center of gravity (thanks to the battery packaged in the floor) and 4-wheel steering make this massive SUV more nimble and easier to park than we expected.
However, the Hummer can only disguise its weight so much. There are still some reminders that this is a hefty electric vehicle. The brakes are adequate, but it still brakes like a big, heavy truck.
The off-road chops of the Hummer EV SUV are admirable if you’re into off-roading with something this big. The Off-Road and Terrain drive modes, a tight turning radius, adjustable ground clearance, and full-length skid plates make the Hummer up for anything. The new KingCrab mode enhances the Hummer&#8217;s 4-wheel steering capability for off-road use.
CrabWalk mode is perhaps a bit gimmicky, but it’s a fun gimmick. We used it to get in and out of tight parallel parking spots — and we may have used it while exiting a drive-thru just to show off. Serious off-roaders will want the upgrades that come with the Extreme Off-Road Package, but every Hummer EV is a capable off-roader.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
The GMC Hummer EV SUV’s maximum range is 315 miles in the 2X model and 312 miles in the 3X model. The all-terrain tires on the Extreme Off-Road Package bring a slight penalty to range and efficiency: 289 miles for the 3X and 282 miles for the 2X. Those range ratings are long enough for most people’s daily driving duties, but the Rivian R1S goes up to 410 miles on a full charge.
The Hummer EV has impressive charging speeds. At a DC fast charging station, it can regain 100 miles of range in as little as 14 minutes. With a Level 2 charger at home, it can replenish up to 30 miles of range per hour. Also, the Hummer is able to charge with the expansive Tesla Supercharger network, but you’ll need an adapter from GM.

Macho Exterior

Like its predecessors bearing the Hummer name, the Hummer EV SUV has an unmistakable aesthetic. The GMC badging is quite subtle, but there’s no question that this is a Hummer. It has a boxy shape but still looks futuristic in its third model year with a unique LED light signature and pronounced fender flares.
One of the coolest features of this SUV is the standard Infinity Roof with four modular sky panels. They’re removable and designed to stack up in the frunk. This roof allows you to open up the interior for a more open-air experience; plus, you can roll down the power rear drop glass in the swing gate. Transparent Sky Panels are optional, providing a panoramic view even with the top on.
The size of the Hummer EV SUV is similar to that of the Rivian R1S. Compared to a more traditional full-size SUV like the <a href="/gmc/yukon/">GMC Yukon</a>, the Hummer is a little lower and wider but has a shorter overall length.

Watts to Freedom 
The thrilling Watts to Freedom feature is a launch mode that unleashes the Hummer’s 3.5-second 0-60 mph time with the tri-motor powertrain.
CrabWalk 
Standard on both trims, CrabWalk uses 4-wheel steering to let the vehicle travel diagonally. The rear wheels can point up to 10 degrees in either direction. CrabWalk makes it easy to maneuver past obstacles in off-road situations, mitigating the need to reverse, steer, drive, and repeat.
Super Cruise 
The standard Super Cruise system allows hands-free driving on GM-mapped roads, including over 750,000 highway miles in North America.
UltraVision 
The available UltraVision system uses up to 18 camera views to let you see everything around your SUV, including what’s underneath you. This is useful in off-road driving and in parking lots.
Extreme Off-Road Package 
This available option package turns up the Hummer’s off-road capabilities with 35-inch mud terrain tires, front and rear e-lockers, ball spline half shafts, full-length skid plates, a rubber floor, and more.
Bidirectional charging 
This new feature for 2026 allows the GMC Hummer EV SUV to feed energy back into a house with the right home charging setup. It can also act as a generator for another EV, if needed.

Rugged and Upscale Interior

The interior of the Hummer EV SUV is a far cry from the military vehicle that inspired it. This SUV has premium materials, an upscale design, and the latest tech features. There’s plenty of space in both rows of seats, but we can’t help but think an SUV this big ought to have a third row. The big cargo hold (35.9 cubic feet) gets bigger with fold-flat back seats (81.8 cubic feet). Oh, and there’s an 11-cubic-foot “frunk” under the hood, which we found handy when backed into a charging station at a grocery store.
The interior design strikes a nice balance of rugged and luxurious. It’s also high-tech, with a digital gauge cluster and a vast 13.4-inch infotainment system with beautiful graphics and a user-friendly interface powered by Google. Notably, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are unavailable.
The Hummer’s cabin is designed to be both premium and durable, and it does that job well, but similarly priced electric SUVs feel more elegant inside. We’re mainly thinking of the Rivian R1S, which has a nicer interior (with 3-row seating) and a lower starting price.

The GMC Hummer EV SUV made quite a statement when it first came out in 2024, and it’s still a head-turner in its third model year. It’s an electric vehicle that’s big, bold, and brash, and it’s as powerful and capable as its muscular design implies. It’s also high-tech with features like the Super Cruise hands-free driving system, a Google built-in infotainment system, and bidirectional charging. We can’t help but love its parlor tricks like CrabWalk mode and the Watts to Freedom boost mode, but this roomy SUV can also be used as a practical daily driver. Most electric SUVs are more efficient and more affordable, but none have the presence of the mighty Hummer.

The GMC Hummer EV SUV has few direct rivals, but the closest is the <a href="/rivian/r1s/">Rivian R1S</a>, which has a starting price under $80,000. However, the tri-motor Rivian is priced very close to the Hummer EV SUV 3X. One could also compare the Hummer EV SUV to the mechanically similar Cadillac Escalade IQ, a 3-row electric luxury SUV starting at about $130,000.

A substantial 170-kWh battery pack delivers fuel to the motors in the GMC Hummer EV. Although it’s efficient compared to a full-size SUV with a gas engine, efficiency is not a strong suit of the Hummer EV. Rated at 53 combined MPGe for the 2X trim and 52 MPGe for the 3X, it’s one of the least efficient EVs on the market. The Rivian R1S gets up to 85 MPGe combined, good for lower <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml">EPA</a>-estimated fuel costs by a factor of $45 per month. In fact, there are hybrids with gas engines that have lower fuel costs than the all-electric Hummer.

The GMC Hummer EV SUV is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. The battery and related components are covered by an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty. Additionally, GMC throws in complimentary maintenance for your first visit.

What's new for 2026

A new Carbon Fiber Edition is added to the GMC Hummer EV SUV lineup for 2026. As its name implies, it generously heaps on carbon-fiber exterior trim and adds exclusive carbon-fiber wheels. 2026 also introduces the KingCrab 4-wheel steering mode intended for off-roading, which is available on older Hummer EVs as a software update. Another nice update this year is bidirectional charging capability; the Hummer can act as a generator for a house or another EV.
